SEU (Speed Enhancement Utility)

Found, a near secret speed enhancement Utility with up to 15% increase in data transfer.
In fact in one of my benchmark tests using SiSoft's Sandra 2001, the hdd access time went from an avg of 12ms to 9ms, which of course is 25% faster.
Another benefit is that it can reduce the CPU load up to 40%, now that's quite an improvement to say the least.
Note: My results for the CD-ROMS were nearly identical to original settings.
So.....what is this mystery utility which BTW, requires No download?
In a word, well.... allright an acronym...It's DMA.
Briefly,DMA is "direct memory access" (sometimes also called "bus mastering"); a way that allows part of your computer to bypass the CPU and take a short cut through the system which can significantly speed operations.
More good news is that even if you have a system of reasonably recent vintage, there's an excellent chance you'll see an *UN*checked DMA option in the dialog box in one or both places. That's because non-DMA drive operations avoid possible compatibility issues. By choosing slower, more-conservative settings, system vendors can save themselves some support calls.
For those who want an in depth look at DMA visit this
link which takes you to Fred Langa's article about this, which is where I learned about it.
For the howto on enabling DMA use this
link.It also provide a table listing the OS versions
that support DMA.
